COVID19: ITECA’s Sustainability Action Plan

As the response to the COVID-19 virus outbreak causes students to stay at home, classes to be suspended and the total evaporation of forward international student enrolments, the independent tertiary education system is facing a challenge to its sustainability.

To support independent providers in the higher education, vocational education, training and skills sectors deal with these challenges, the Independent Tertiary Education Council Australia (ITECA) has put together a strong plan to support our members.

The action plan sets out what needs to be done by government to support ITECA members. It contains twenty-two initiatives that include:

ITECA COVID-19 Action Plan Includes —
  • $180 million in direct financial support
  • $13 million to assist the transition to online learning
  • ASQA & TEQSA Cost recovery implementation delay
  • ASQA, TEQSA, VRQA & TACWA Compliance abatement measures
  • Assistance for students unable to meet work placement requirements
  • Expediting payments from government to providers
  • Suspending the VSL and FEE-HELP loan fee

ITECA is actively engaged with Ministers, senior departmental staff and agency heads to secure adoption of these measures. Individually and collectively they will cut the red-tape that independent tertiary education providers face and provide financial support for members.

  • ITECA appreciates that these are difficult times for the independent tertiary education sector and we are committed to our task to understand the concerns of members and be a strong advocate to government to put in place the measures necessary to support the sustainability of the sector.

As always, if you’re an ITECA member and need assistance in overcoming roadblocks put before you by government that frustrates your ability to deal with the Covid-19 virus outbreak, be sure to contact ITECA’s policy team.
