The Independent Tertiary Education Council Australia (ITECA) affords stakeholders across government with an ability to engage in a meaningful way with the independent higher education, vocational education and training sectors.
ITECA has a long-standing track-record of providing evidence-based policy solutions that assist governments, both nationally and at a state/territory level, to ensure that the independent tertiary education sector supports a growing economy.
The strength of ITECA’s relationship with government rests on the large and expansive nature of ITECA’s membership. This encompasses small family enterprises, significant domestic providers in addition to local operations of multinational training providers.
As the peak body representing the independent tertiary education sector, ITECA has formal collaborative agreements with the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) in addition to the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). ITECA also appoints representatives to working groups convened by government stakeholders including AusTrade, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the Department of Home Affairs.
At a local level, ITECA maintains extensive and ongoing dialogue with state / territory governments and appoints more than two dozen representatives to government reference groups across the nation.
The broad framework by which the organisation deals with parliamentary, departmental and agency stakeholders is set out in the ITECA Government Engagement Strategy.
ITECA’s policy advocacy is aimed at creating a regulatory environment for the independent tertiary education sector that supports students while at the same time freeing quality providers from an unnecessary compliance burden.
ITECA’s national advocacy and research team is based in Canberra.
