Summary —

In the recent cabinet reshuffle in New South Wales, the Hon. Alister Henskens MP was appointed as the Minister for Skills and Innovation, an appointment critical to independent Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).

Key Issues —

The role of Minister for Minister for Skills and Innovation carries with it responsibility for setting the direction of the ‘Smart And Skilled’ vocational training funding program, along with other such as the JobTrainer initiative.

Along with the appointment in the skills and training portfolio, Mr Henskens is also the Minister for Science Innovation and Technology.

His previous appointments include: Cabinet Secretary; Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services; plus Parliamentary Secretary for Finance, Services and Property. He has served on the Legislative Assembly’s committee on transport and infrastructure plus the committee on Investment, Industry and Regional Development.

Prior to entering parliament ha was a barrister and holds a Bachelor of Economics (BEc) Master of Laws (LLM).

ITECA continues to engage positively with New South Wales politicians from across the political spectrum to ensure that the role of independent RTOs in providing the state's employers with a skilled workforce is understood.

ITECA members with an interest in the delivery of tertiary education programs in the human services field come together in meetings of the ITECA New South Wales Funded Provider Interest Group.  ITECA Membership - It's a great time to get involved.
