The Australian Government is seeking the advice of independent higher education and vocational training providers on the support provided to students studying in, or have come from, remote and regional areas. The opportunity to offer your thoughts comes at a meeting of the ITECA Regional & Remote Student Support Task Group.

Key Issues —

Studying can present extra challenges for students in the higher education, vocational education, training and skills sectors if they’re from, or in, a rural, regional or remote area. The challenges are more complex if the student is studying away from home.

The National Regional, Rural and Remote Tertiary Education Strategy Review - Final Report identified a need to improve the quality and range of support services for these students to help them transition to post-school study and reduce the higher rates of attrition they experience. It is in this context that the Australian Government wants to hear from members of the Independent Tertiary Education Council Australia (ITECA) in the higher education, vocational education, training and skills sectors on the issues set out below:

Remote, Rural & Regional Student Support Consultation

  The kinds of support services tertiary providers currently deliver to students from or in remote, rural and regional areas;
    Identify where improvements could be made to student support; and

The development of materials for tertiary education providers on good practice for delivering support services to these students.

The opportunity to offer your views on this issue comes at a meeting of the ITECA Regional & Remote Student Support Task Group that has been especially convened for this purpose.
