Summary —

Innovation & Business Skills Australia (IBSA) is undertaking a second round of public consultation regarding the Industrial Sewing Skill Set. They are seeking feedback from those with an interest in the industry by Thursday 5 December 2019.

Key Issues —

IBSA held a public consultation forum on 15 October 2019 on the development of national qualifications for the industry and the apparent mismatch of skills and business needs.

The proposed Skill Set and draft units have been revised based on stakeholder feedback and reviewed by subject matter experts on the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) for industrial sewing.

Key revisions from Round 1 Consultation —

  • Minor changes to performance criteria, performance evidence and knowledge evidence to support increased flexibility and cross-sector application of the units.
  • Clarification of references to Australian Standards and inclusion of reference to product-specific personal protective equipment knowledge.
  • The inclusion of the Foundation Skills field in each unit where these skills are not explicit enough in the performance criteria.

Full details of Round 1 Consultation —

To ensure you have the opportunity to provide feedback during the second consultation round, please email your feedback to manufacturing@ibsa.org.au by Thursday 5 December 2019, with the subject line ‘Industrial Sewing’.

Consultation webinars are being held on Wednesday 27 November 2019 and Wednesday 4 December 2019.
