Summary —

Members of the Independent Tertiary Education Council Australia (ITECA) are currently sharing their experience of working with the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) and providing these to the review that is looking at the regulator's governance, performance and culture.

Key Issues —

Last month the Australian Government announced a rapid review into the governance, policies and culture within ASQA, the regulator for the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector. This review came about when ITECA collaborated with other peak bodies in the sector to raise some concerns about the regulator.

An external consultant has been engaged to conduct the review with the results to be provided to the Australian Government. ITECA members have been invited to contact the review team to support the review and outline their experience in dealing with the regulator – whether it’s good or bad. The focus of the comments to be provided by ITECA members are related to ASQA’s internal regulatory practices.

ITECA will continue to work with the Australian Government to ensure that this review produces improvements as to how ASQA interacts with independent providers.
