Summary —

According to a recent assessment of student sentiment, independent Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) enjoy extraordinarily high levels of student satisfaction. These are set out in a new resource published by the Independent Tertiary Education Council Australia (ITECA).

Key Issues —

As the Australian Government increasingly turns its mind to placing student choice as the founding principle for its investment in vocational education and training, the debate has turned to the reputation of Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). To highlight the reputation for quality that Independent RTOs have, ITECA has published a new resource.

Data from the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) highlights the reputation that independent RTOs have for providing the quality outcomes that students and their employers look for. The data includes the following satisfaction measures

NCVER Data ―
Satisfaction With Private Providers

◾ Students satisfaction with their training ― 88%
◾ Students that would recommend their training ― 91%
◾ Students satisfaction with their teaching ― 87%
◾ Students satisfaction with their assessment ― 89%
◾ Students that would recommend their training provider ― 88%

This data showcasing the quality of independent RTOs can be viewed in a new information sheet available from the link below.

These outcomes are significant in a context where independent RTOs support around 80% of the 4.2 million students in vocational education and training.

“ITECA is proud of the reputation that our members have for providing students with the quality outcomes and we’re thrilled to be spreading this news,” said Troy Williams, ITECA Chief Executive.

The new information is helping drive the reform debate about giving students the right to select the RTO that is best able to help them achieve their life and career goals. This may be a quality, independent RTO or a public TAFE college.
