The South Australian Skills for Business scheme will offer up to $5,000 for small businesses to hire a new apprentice or trainee on a paid contract and give advice on how to address a business’ skills and training needs and access subsidies.
Key Issues —
As providers across the higher education, vocational education, training and skills sectors are impacted by the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus and measures taken to contain its spread, the Independent Tertiary Education Council Australia (ITECA) has been a strong advocate for the South Australian Government to introduce measures to support not only the independent tertiary education sector, but also the businesses that employ its students. In this context the assistance package below is welcome.
The South Australian Government’s support package, to work in parallel with the Australian Government’s support package, will help small business to provide on-the-job training, grow, upskill and diversify their workforce.
The State Government has also announced funding through the Group Training boost, reducing the cost for employers to take on an apprentice through Group Training. This package will support employers with the charge-out rate for first-year apprentices to encourage them to move into new markets, increase their business development capacity and deliver skills where needed.
