Industry Sector/s —
Vocational Education & Training

Summary —

The formation of a new interest group for independent aviation training providers gives the sectors a powerful avenue to drive reforms to the regulations and standards in the sector.  The Independent Tertiary Education Council Australia (ITECA) is taking the lead role in bringing the sector together as aviation training providers struggle to support students during the Covid-19 crisis.

Key Issues —

Recognising the unique environment in which pilot training organisations work, the Independent Tertiary Education Council Australia (ITECA) has launched the ITECA Aviation Pilot Training Interest Group.

As a growing component of ITECA’s membership, the Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) delivering aviation training will allow members to share ideas, learn from each other and importantly, contribute to the debate about vocational education and training reform.

ITECA has been working with a select number of providers that deliver training on matters such as access to the VET Student Loan program and the challenges brought about by pilot training in the Covid-19 environment. Social distancing has made pilot training nearly impossible, severely impacting the ability of flight schools to support students trying to complete their training.

ITECA Member Engagement —

The ITECA Aviation Pilot Training Interest Group will also give RTOs that train pilots a strong voice in the policy debate.  Independent aviation training organisations will be able to contribute to positive reform, from working with the sector’s regulator, through to qualifications development.

Importantly, participation in the ITECA Aviation Pilot Training Interest Group is an exclusive benefit that comes with ITECA membership.  If your organisation isn’t a member be sure to apply:

ITECA Membership ꟷ

ITECA’s strength can be found in the employees from across the sector that are active within the organisation.  They provide the advice and guidance to the ITECA Board and staff about the issues facing the vocational education and training sector, helping shape ITECA’s strategic direction.

Member Engagement —

ITECA’s ability to play a lead role in matters associated with this issue rests on the advice and guidance of individuals serving on the ITECA Aviation Sector Interest Group.
