RTO Excellence & Performance In New South Wales

As the economic recovery gets underway, students and employers across New South Wales will be supported by independent Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) with a long-standing commitment to excellence. Importantly, independent RTOs are backed by strong links to local businesses and a workforce of highly professional trainers and assessors.

Independent RTOs are the mainstay of New South Wales’ vocational education and training sector. Collectively, they support 1,144,490 students – that’s around 84% of students in New South Wales in a vocational education and training program.

Students with independent tertiary education providers:
◾ 101,310 Students – 73% of all students in the state studying a Diploma and above
◾ 95,450 Students – 62% of all students in the state studying a Certificate IV
◾ 123,880 Students – 51% of all students in the state studying a Certificate III
◾ 49,710 Students – 39% of all students in the state studying a Certificate I & II

When it comes to supporting apprentices and trainees, independent RTOs have established themselves as delivering the quality outcomes that employers look for.

As the economic recovery gets underway across New South Wales, independent RTOs have the experience to provide skills in areas that are of strategic importance to businesses and the community.

◾ 69,095 Students – 60% of all students in the state across community services disciplines.
◾ 116,410 Students – 71% of all students in the state in financial services disciplines.
◾ 27,635 Students – 50% of all students in the state across tourism, travel and hospitality disciplines.             

It’s no wonder then independent RTO’s are the preferred choice of businesses across New South Wales given the incredibly high level of satisfaction that exists. Although state-specific data on employer satisfaction are not available, national data show independent providers lead the way.

◾ 89.7% of employers were satisfied with the relevance of skills taught by independent RTOs.
◾ 89.6% of employers were satisfied with the trainer’s knowledge and experience of the industry at independent RTOs.
◾ 91.5% of employers were satisfied with the condition of equipment and facilities at independent RTOs.
◾ 90.0% of employers were satisfied with an independent RTO’s flexibility in meeting their needs.
◾ 84.9% of employers were satisfied with the cost-effectiveness of training at independent RTOs.

Importantly, independent RTOs in New South Wales are also the benchmark when it comes to student satisfaction in the state.

Student Satisfaction & Outcomes


 

◾ 90.5% of students in government-funded courses with private RTO were satisfied with the overall quality of training
◾ 65.3% of students in government-funded courses with private RTOs had improved employment status after training.
◾ 87.0% of students in government-funded courses with private RTOs achieved their main reason for training.
◾ 81.8% of students in government-funded courses with private RTOs were employed or entered further study after training.
◾ 73.7% of students in government-funded courses with private RTOs were employed after training.

There are approximately 921 active independent RTOs headquartered in New South Wales that have a commitment to excellence.

Independent RTOs in New South Wales range in size from small family businesses to the local operations of large national companies. They can be non-profit organisations (e.g. a community college or sporting club), a training college run by a church or a for-profit organisation. They share a commitment for delivering the quality outcomes that students and their employers look for.

As businesses look to the future with hope and set about the task of seeking new employees, or reskilling their existing workforce, it’s clear independent RTOs will play the lead role.
