Meeting Overview —
Over 1-2 September 2022, the Australian Government is convening its Jobs and Skills Summit at Parliament House in Canberra. Bringing together the business community, employers and a select group of stakeholders from the tertiary education sector, the summit will look at how the nation can improve workforce productivity in order to address the growing skills shortage and improve real wages.
The Independent Tertiary Education Council Australia (ITECA) will be represented at the summit and is engaging extensively with its members on the issues to be presented at the summit. ITECA is extending an invitation to all independent skills training and higher education providers to receive a briefing on these issues that include:

Independent Tertiary Education Sector Policy Advocacy
Independent Tertiary Education Profile: The critical role of independent RTO and higher education providers to the task of training the next generation of workers and reskilling existing workers.
Workforce Reskilling: The pathway to higher workforce productivity through workforce reskilling and the critical role of independent RTOs and higher education providers.
Microcredentials: The need to develop a robust microcredential funding and recognition framework that will allow independent RTOs and higher education providers to deliver a greater role of microcredentials.
Jobs & Skills Australia: The role of the new ‘Jobs And Skills Australia’ agency and how it can reinforce the role of independent RTOs and higher education providers at the centre of the skills training sector.
Skilled Migration: Stronger linkages between international education and the skilled migration programs, including options to attract partially-trained apprentices and to allow a greater number of international students to work in Australia upon completion of their studies.
Working Hours: A considered approach to striking an appropriate between an international students ability to work and commitment to their studies.

The solutions are complex but there is one certainty. To move forward the Australian economy will need to rely, more than ever on the work of independent Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and higher education providers. It will be the reputation of ITECA members for excellence, their connectivity with local businesses and their ability to innovate which will make improving workforce productivity possible.

This event is open to representatives of independent RTOs, independent higher education providers, plus stakeholders with an interest in the independent tertiary education sector.
Further Briefing —
A further post-summit briefing on 21 September 2022 will be available only to ITECA members which will summarise the key issues discussed at the Summit and the ongoing role for independent RTOs and higher education providers.
