Respected by the Australian, state and territory governments as an authoritative source of evidence-based policy advice, ITECA Higher Education empowers its members with the influence to drive reform.  

The policy positions and response to government reviews and inquiries are developed by the sectors leaders that volunteer their time to serve on the ITECA Higher Education National Policy Committee.


Terms Of Reference
ITECA Higher Education National Policy Committee

Objectives: To preserve the sector’s reputation for quality in a way that balances the compliance burden with the need to avoid unnecessary red tape

To harmonise the different compliance and reporting obligations face by independent higher education providers.

To identify and promote funding models and loan programs that support an equitable and sustainable independent higher education sector underpinned by student choice

Responsibilities:
Design and application of regulatory frameworks, principally the Higher Education Threshold Standards.

The effectiveness and responsiveness of the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency.

Higher education funding and student loans programs.

National frameworks for higher education research capability.

Higher education sector workforce development.

National reporting frameworks of higher education providers.

Opportunities to reduce red tape in a way that preserves the integrity of the higher education sector and its reputation for excellence.

Membership:
Committee Chair

One representative from each state / territory committee

Up to ten additional representatives appointed by the Board

Delegation/s:
The committee has no delegated decision-making; however, it can provide advice and guidance to the ITECA Board and the ITECA Chief Executive.

The ability of members to drive positive policy reform stems from collaborative engagement that ITECA Higher Education has with key stakeholders such as the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) and the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia (COSBOA).

ITECA Higher Education wields formidable influence in driving impactful policy reform by harnessing the vast reservoir of resources and expertise offered by the broader Independent Tertiary Education Council Australia (ITECA) network.
